"My Brother's Keeper" In the early days, man needed the wisdom and strength of the wolf to learn how to hunt and survive. The wolf, being such a good hunter, was pleased to lend his expertise. Today, the wolf needs man to protect him, his family and his way of life. The dancer is Jack Strong, Tlinget. This painting was completed in 2004
Phyllis was of the Haida Tribe, Raven Clan. She lived in Kitsap County, Washington. A beautiful, sweet lady, she danced at local Native American celebrations. She said to me once "Maybe you will paint my feet some day." She passed away of Mesothelioma, a cancer of the lungs, caused by asbestosis. Her husband, who worked in the Naval Shipyard, also died from this. She did not work in the shipyard, however, she cleaned and washed his clothes. Phyllis, this is for you!
